I seriously can't believe it's been a year. The first few months were a blur of sleepless nights, raging hormones, and semi-sanity... I look back at pictures and am so thankful that I have them, or those moments would be lost forever in the thick fog that enveloped my brain.
I think that Kaydie came pre-wired as a sweet, loving, adorable little angel. I don't know what I did to deserve such a wonderful girl, but I am incredibly grateful for her. She seems like she is going to be very smart, assertive, polite, and funny. I overhear her telling jokes to herself and she has about five different styles of laughs, from peals of laughter to chortles and snorts... she has so much character for such a tiny little human. She loves dogs - when she hears barking, she heads towards it... she doesn't try to hurt them, just pet them and love them. She does not get scared easily - when she gets knocked over, bumped, or surprised by loud noises... she keeps her cool and stays relaxed and calm.
I was worried that she wouldn't take to anybody but me, since I stayed off work and spent so much exclusive time with her from birth to 10 months, but she is very open with her affection - after a little visit, she warms up to most people and gives 'loves' and waves byebye with a grin as we go. She loves babies and children - wants to give hugs and play with them...
Kaydie has brought a lot of joy to Dave and Tracy and Todd and Alan since I've returned to work in September. It's been wonderful to have one foot in the workplace and the rest of me still with Kaydie at home, and Tracy has made it feel nearly guilt free by being such a loving auntie to my baby girl. Kaydie has a ball playing over there in the mornings - and it's a great feeling to rush home to see her happy 'welcome home mommy' grin again...
As far as Kaydie goes, she weighs in at just under 25 lbs, and is just shy of 33 inches long. She's a little on the heavy side, and off the charts for her height for her age. The doctor says she is perfectly healthy and is right on target. We usually brush Kaydie's teeth when she takes a bath after dinner at night, and we love reading books together. Lately, Kaydie has become a dancing machine... she loves getting down and spinning - - - and that girl's got RHYTHM! It's so adorable. Yes, video will be coming soon, I promise!
I let her slide on sleeping through the nights when I returned to work... It was selfish of me, but I needed that extra time holding her at night. So, we are getting back on track over the next week or so, and I anticipate she'll be regularly sleeping through the night before Thanksgiving.
Kaydie sure can throw a tantrum now - yes, they are hilarious, and yes, it is just because she is frustrated at not having the words to speak her mind to me...but WOWSA. Such attitude. (I can't imagine where she got THAT from!) Her other issue is that she thinks it is funny to bite me, and just started to experiment with hitting this week. So, now that she is a whopping one year old, when she bites or hits, she gets a one minute time out. It might take a few times, but she is so smart that I know she'll get over this phase in no time flat.
Well, that's all I can think of right now... If I come up with any other updates, I'll definitely updae the post!
